Our town is the last authentic Mexican village along the coast of the Mayan Riviera, maintaining its charm and real “pueblito” feel by embracing the natural beauty that is abundant in this area. Development in our town has grown along well-defined paths, restricted by natural barriers, deterring the unrestricted growth that has begun to dominate other parts of the coastline. This has allowed us to preserve the natural paradise and sense of tranquility that have been here for centuries. With an expanse of the worlds second largest barrier reef a short distance off shore, and a pristine sanctuary of mangrove wetlands preserved behind the town site, our designation as a national marine park by the federal government has helped us to maintain an eco-friendly charm, and a laid back, friendly attitude that only a real Mexican community can offer. Our location at the beginning of the Mayan Riviera affords an excellent starting point for exploring and enjoying all of the diverse attractions that have made this area the number one tourist destination in the world.
